Event in Jackson Park Neighborhood to Highlight Mayor’s Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge
Milwaukee, Wisc. August 8, 2019 – NEWaukee will host a special SideWAUK Session with Mayor Tom Barrett in the Jackson Park neighborhood on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
NEWaukee’s SideWAUK Sessions are monthly walking tours that spotlight different neighborhoods and feature networking as well as talks from area entrepreneurs and community organizers. They are free and open to the public to attend.
“SideWAUK Sessions have allowed community members to step outside their comfort zones while engaging in purposeful and meaningful conversations,” explains Erik Kennedy, Senior Community Relations Coordinator at Advocate Aurora Health. “Each WAUK creates awareness and highlights how numerous parts of the Milwaukee community are committed to changing the narrative while embracing change.”
Mayor Barrett’s participation in the SideWAUK Session is part of his Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge. Mayor Barrett created the Walk 100 Miles in 100 days challenge in 2013 after a Public Policy Forum study showed that less than half of the people in Milwaukee get the daily exercise they need.
Walk 100’s overall goal is to increase physical activity among residents and encourage all to explore Milwaukee’s neighborhoods. Throughout the summer, Walk 100 partners with community organizations, elected officials, and residents to host walks in all corners of the city.
